How often should I water my plants (and how much)?

During the first two weeks after transplanting, it is important to keep the soil directly around your plants moist, as the roots need time to establish themselves in their new home. After two weeks, you'll want to base your watering schedule on each individual plant's needs, but a good general guideline is to water when the top 1-inch of soil around your plant becomes dry, which is normally one to two days depending on temperatures and sunlight exposure. Additionally, watering directly around the base of the plant will provide the necessary amount of moisture for the roots to grow down deep into ground and avoid growing out and shallow.

These guidelines are similar for plants in containers and baskets, however, these plants will need to be watered at least once per day on hot days with good, deep soaks.
